Tyler started playing the alto saxophone in 5th grade and continued to improve his skill throughout middle and high school. He has taken guidance from some of the best local saxophone players like Mary Sue-Tobin and Renato Caranto. Tyler played lead alto in the Battle Ground high school advanced jazz band during years 2011 and 2012 when they qualified and performed in the national Swing Central Jazz Festival in Savannah, Georgia.
Since high school, Tyler has maintained his chops through casual practicing and getting together with other jazz musicians for the occasional jam session. Tyler picked up the tenor saxophone to play with The One-Eyed Kats in November, 2019, and has been a part of the band since.
